Our Indigenous History

We are proud to reside in the area where our ancestors have lived in, since time immemorial. The Indigenous people of this area are an integral part of the community. We enjoy sharing our family history, language, and stories when we can. The town of Coarsegold and surrounding area is imbedded with Chukchansi history, and without the Indigenous people of this land there would be no town of Coarsegold.

My Great Great Grandfather, Dick Neal, in the town of Coarsegold before there were any paved roads.

A document taken from a study of Chukchansi Indians in Coarsegold.

My Great Great Grandmother, Matilda Neal who was well into her 90's and still working hard. She lived in what is now the Coarsegold area with her Chukchansi people. I live on the land she was from, a rich history indeed. I'm grateful to come from a strong line of women which has been passed down generation to generation, hardworking, loving, supportive, full of wisdom, intuitive and the strength to endure hardships.
